LUKE TREGIDGO STREAMLINING A VITAL SUPPORT SERVICE FOR FAMILIES

Luke’s core focus is on driving change in different public sector organisations so they can give children, young people and their families all the support they need to thrive. His work with an Early Help Service is a case in point – it saw more families being supported earlier, reducing escalations to more serious levels of intervention. You’ve been at Newton for a while now. How have things changed?

“In the seven and a half years that I’ve been at Newton, the scale and impact of the work we do for our clients has expanded massively. And I think that’s been fuelled by the fact that we’re recruiting people with more diverse skillsets and mindsets.”

“We’ve always been very non-hierarchical. Everyone here is encouraged to contribute and challenge the way we do things. We’ve always believed in the collective power of decision-making and innovation, and I don’t think that’s ever going to change.”

One of the things we’re most proud about at Newton is the way we see our client programmes through from beginning to end – and beyond. It’s also incredibly fulfilling for our people. They don’t just dip in and out of a programme; they have a long-term involvement in driving change.

“We really do have a tangible impact. Each day you work with clients, you see things getting better, bit by bit. By the end of the programme, which could be a year or so down the line, you see the sum impact of all those smaller steps that together, have made a significant difference.”

EXPERIENCE LIFE ON CLIENT SITE

Spending time with our clients so we can experience their world is central to our philosophy. It’s about getting real insights from the various individuals who make things happen on a daily basis. By understanding the challenges they face, we can get a much better understanding of the challenges faced by the wider organisation.

“We roll our sleeves up and get out there with our clients. It might be that we help to run youth groups with Children’s Social Care. Or that we go out on visits with health workers. Then we combine these invaluable insights with data and analysis to build a powerful programme of change.”

Inclusion and giving back

We have a number of employee resource groups designed to foster a diverse, inclusive working environment. There are also great opportunities to give back through the Newton Foundation – our people have been involved in everything from fundraising efforts for Alzheimer’s to mentoring students from underprivileged backgrounds to supporting programmes to tackle homelessness in the UK.
